Glenn Dyer
Trust No One

Loyalists meant to rid their country of a double-dealing collaborator. Instead, they created a threat that could destroy Allied unity.

The Writer’s Dossier 12/11/2023 – The Glenn Dyer interview

DOSSIER: The historical thrillers you’ve written in your Conor Thorn series all have a great World War 2 setting where Thorn works as an OSS agent on different missions. For those unsure, the OSS was the Office of Strategic Services and worked as the pre-CIA intelligence agency. As a member of the OSS Society, how much has that helped with your research into the organization as it pertains to your writing?

DYER: Actually, truth be told, not that much. I spend some time on the Society’s website from time to time, but most of my research comes from other internet sources. Thank God for Wikipedia! I also find myself buying, to my wife’s dismay, quite a few used and new books on subjects related to the plot of the story.

Bellisario, Cannell, DYER?

DOSSIER: When you were working as a television executive, did you ever study or consider the programming and think, “Jeez, I could come up with something better than that!”? (The Dossier knows you never had such thoughts about the works of Donald P. Bellisario, Stephen J. Cannell, or Dossier alum Lee Goldberg!)

DYER: Perish the thought that I could compete creatively with those icons! As a programming executive I have bought, through syndication, many shows that worked on network television but couldn’t draw enough eyeballs to make economic sense on a local market basis. I was pitched plenty of first run shows that could stink up the room pretty quick.

The No Name Saloon, Park City, Utah

DOSSIER: When and where do you write, and what kind of environment do you prefer? (Music/silence/at the end of the bar in Riverhorse on Main in Park City?)

DYER: Ha! You sound like a local! I prefer the No Name Saloon! Actually about 90% of a work in progress is done in my home office on my Mac. I constantly bounce from the manuscript to the internet because I can’t help but do some quick research as I am writing. A killer to my productivity, for sure. The other 10% is done in a local coffee shop…with ear buds firmly in place. As to when, I am all over the place as to a schedule. Most writing is done midday to cocktail hour (5P)!

The big Jack Carr & Steve Berry blurbs

DOSSIER: When the Dossier discovered you live in Park City, Utah, we were going to suggest getting Jack Carr to blurb you book TRUST NO ONE. Then, we discovered Jack has already blurbed your writing, as well as Steve Berry. How did those come about?

DYER: Actually Jack and Steve have been kind enough to blurb two books for me. I consider myself very fortunate that they took the time. I met Jack at a book signing at Dolly’s Bookstore in PC when The Terminal List had just been published. We chatted and…the rest is history! As for Steve, I had nothing to lose by asking him. He’s been very supportive whenever I have a question or request. I love guys who like to “give back” and remember what it’s like starting out. As I said, I am very grateful for their support. I didn’t ask for another blurb from Jack and Steve for Trust No One because I didn’t want them to get sick of me!

Live-action Conor Thorn

DOSSIER: Are any of your Conor Thorn stories going to end up in live action? Now’s the time to put that television background to work with a Netflix or Prime Video deal, right?

DYER: From your lips to God’s ears! While some readers have said that the Thorn stories would make for good viewing, I think that’s a long shot. I don’t mind saying that when I started out on book one in the series, The Torch Betrayal, I had the actor Chris Pine (think Star Trek movies) in mind when I built Conor Thorn’s character traits. Actually, I have given thought to reaching out to his agent and manager to make a pitch. What do you think, Jeff? Roll the dice?

DOSSIER: Dialing Chris’ number now, brother. We go way back.
